Some of the Oil-for-Food Program monies finished up in the Mariam Appeal which was set up to fight against the sanctions (lasting 12 ½ years) that had been imposed by the United Nations in Iraq.   The US Senate, and now the United Nations Security Council under the chairmanship of another American named Paul Volcker, (former head of the US Federal Reserve) are using every trick in the book to try and bring Mr Gallagher down, just as they (Americans) tried to bring Kofi Annan down.    What should be remembered in all this mudslinging is that it wasn’t just Mr Gallagher who was trying to find a just way of normalising the situation in Iraq.    Edward Heath, former Prime Minister of the UK visited Saddam Hussein in order to try and resolve the problems without resorting to war.

It should also be remembered that MILLIONS demonstrated throughout the world against a war in Iraq.  It would appear that the Americans are trying to justify their actions by blackening the characters of anyone that dares to question their motives and intentions in, not only Iraq, but the entire Oil Producing region.   In case anyone has forgotten, one of the first pronouncements by the present incumbent in the White House was the “Axis of Evil”; - IRAQ - IRAN - N. KOREA.  Since the US appears to be mudslinging I think it should be pointed out that North Korea were, before the Iraq war, negotiating with South Korea to install a rail link between the two parts of Korea (increased cooperation).   At this time the US blockaded the oil supplies to North Korea making it impossible to generate electricity.    They were thus obliged to turn to Nuclear power production which suited the American strategy ideally, bringing into question N. Korea’s intentions for pursuing the Nuclear path !   Fortunately American soldiers have been spared their dedication to duty in North Korea thanks to the Russians stepping in as intermediaries  - otherwise we would have seen another war in Korea.   So, the real question is, who is really making money out of Iraq and any other war zones that the Americans have in mind ?

No. 18    The Gallagher Saga
The selection of the finalists in the leadership battle of the Conservative Party has finally been decided.   The two Davids, David Cameron and David Davies.

The vital question before deciding on the winner of the contest is “Who will be the best opposition leader to stand against Tony Blair ?”

No doubt David Cameron will be a recruiter for the Conservative Party bringing a younger image to the party but, to take the place of Michael Howard, challenging the arguments of the Prime Minister needs an aggressive candidate.   David Cameron does not appear to be that man - he appears to me very much like the quiet man !   Undoubtedly both are great people in their own right but if the country is to be run democratically we need a strong opposition leader to keep the “Spin Doctor” in line.

David Davies is the tough guy of the two candidates and is far more likely to keep the Prime Minister in check.   David Cameron is an ideal leader in waiting, learning the ropes whilst standing behind David Davies in No. 10 Downing Street (Deputy Prime Minister).   The M.P. representing the Monmouth constituency has a far better chance of winning the next General Election.   Surely the choice of leader should be to win the election  ?

David Cameron is a younger version of Kenneth Clarke.  Given another ten years he will have the experience and confidence of the public to lead the Conservative Party and the country.

USA - Anyone that may be alarmed by some of the activities of the present incumbent in the White House may be interested to learn something of the Bush families involvement in the financing of the German War Machine, WWII.
